Alone and Lonely

The dog on my feet makes good slippers

The water in my glass comforts my soul

The song on the radio narrates my world

The blanket on my shoulders hugs my heart, for I am alone and lonely

The Word in my mind lights the dark

The crumbs on my plate show restraint

The pulse in my ears signals life

The deep breath I exhale is acceptance, for I am alone and lonely

The hope of my faith keeps me steady

The needs of my life keep me faithful

The regrets of my past help me focus

The prayers of my whispers give me compass, for I am alone and lonely

Close your eyes, O heart

do not look at what could have been

or could be

It is a fool’s folly

When you are alone and lonely
